Half-way through my internship! What did I learn and stories for students looking for your dream internship.

As my internship at SAP is reaching the half-way mark, I would like to share my experience with you all in this short post. I hope this post can help you find and land your dream internship.

What does SAP do?

SAP is a multinational software company that develops enterprise software to manage business operations and customer relations. In its 49 years of constant innovation, SAP's mission has always been to make businesses run better and smarter. SAP stands for Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing. The company is the world's third-largest publicly-traded software company by revenue and Europe's largest technology firm.

What do I do at SAP?

Besides providing the best ERP software, SAP also provide software and services in HCM (Human Capital Management), ISM (Intelligent Spend Management), P&T (Platform and Technology), SCM (Supply Chain Management), etc. Within their P&T line of business, there a push to bring their existing customers to the 'Cloud' where exciting products like analytics and ML are enabled. This is the space that I operate in - I provide the sales team with insights using SAP Analytics Cloud and a slew of other analytical tools and processes.

What tech do I use the most (Most to Least)?

  1. SAP Analytics Cloud: build visualization for leaderships and ad-hoc insight extraction. I promise it is way more powerful than Tableau thanks to its AI/ML capability. Try it out here.

  2. Python Scripting: automate data processes and analysis.

  3. Excel: this tool is way more prevalent in the real-world than you may think. So, I highly suggest that you brush on your VBA, Macros, VLOOKUP, and Pivot Table skills.

What I am most excited about every day at SAP?

Collaborating with the most talented interns and supportive managers is what I am most excited when I get up to prepare for a new day at SAP. There are really no barriers between interns, employees, and managers - your opinions and contributions are always valued. My tip here is to connect with as many people within the organization as possible. I said connect (not superficial networking!) - thank you James Dender for showing me the way here.

Thank you note!

I am grateful to Andrea Yowman (VP Strategic and Alliances) for believing in my potential and giving me this opportunity. I would like to thank all of the amazing people in my team - I learn new things from you all every single day.

Special thanks to Prof. Gaurav Shekhar and Sivya Leventhal for guiding me throughout the process. I am grateful to Jindal School of Management for offering a rich blend of courses and equipping us with the industry-ready skillsets and technical knowledge.
